Message match
A visitor who clicks an ad for waterproof walking boots and lands on a general footwear page has to search again, and many will simply leave. Match the headline to the ad's promise, show the product or offer from the ad above the fold, and keep the same terms and imagery. Google Ads scores landing page experience as one of the three components of Quality Score, alongside expected click-through rate and ad relevance, so mismatch costs money as well as conversions. With ads produced in many variants, the practical unit is a page variant per ad group or theme, not per ad.
Variants worth testing
Testing works when each variant carries a different idea: the offer framed as saving time rather than saving money, proof from reviews rather than from a demonstration, a short form against a longer qualifying one. Variants that differ by a synonym produce noise and split traffic. Traffic sets the limit: a page with modest visits can only take a couple of variants to a clear result in a reasonable time, so choose the tests with the largest likely effect. Keep a log of hypotheses and results, so new generated variants build on what was learned instead of rediscovering it.
Speed and accessibility
Generated imagery is often the heaviest thing on the page and the largest element in the first view, which makes it the Largest Contentful Paint. Google's Core Web Vitals thresholds for a good experience are LCP within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint within 200 milliseconds and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, assessed at the 75th percentile of visits. Serve the hero image in a modern format at its displayed size, and do not lazy-load it. For accessibility, WCAG 2.2 level AA adds a minimum target size of 24 by 24 CSS pixels for controls, alongside contrast, headings, form labels and alt text.
Claims, prices and local requirements
The landing page carries the detail a short ad cannot, so the two must agree: the same price, the same dates, the same terms. In the EU, a page announcing a price reduction must show the prior price, meaning the lowest price in the previous 30 days, under Directive 98/6/EC as amended by the Omnibus Directive. Localisation also means local legal furniture, such as the Impressum that German sites must carry under section 5 of the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz, plus local payment methods and local proof. Synthetic White enforces approved claims and banned words from the brand hub at generation, in ads and pages alike.
